Knit Romana

  6 to 16 September, 2010
  $2750 per person, double occupancy
  $600 single supplement

Experience the Dolce Vita of knitting in the Roman countryside, spurred by the skills taught by Annie Modesitt. We meet at Rome Fiumicino airport for the short ride into the hills above the Eternal City, arriving just in time for the afternoon stroll or passeggiata, a ritual in the Castelli Romani. Share what you saw and learn about Italian current events during dinner together.

Leisurely days are filled with sightseeing, knitting, and classes. Annie will teach combination and lace knitting approaches to broaden your understanding of knitted fabric and how you create each stitch. Use Italian yarns inspired by the Roman countryside during the 9 hours of class time (three sessions of three hours each). All you need are your needles and enthusiasm!

Knitters will also revel in the Castelli Romani (or, Roman Castles in English). WeÕll visit Castel Gandolfo, summer home of the Pope. Spend an afternoon walking the ruins of Tuscolo, a hilltop town whose history predates Rome. Tour the gardens of Villa Landriana, where beauty slowly replaced the bombed landscape after World War II. In Calcata, discover a artistic haven that is both quintessentially Italian and atypical at the same time! At Tivoli, walk among water features in a beautiful villa garden.

Our tour focuses on the Roman countryside, but you cannot forget Roma! Touring the city lights by night in our private bus, we cruise by landmarks while listening to stories of Rome. And on our day tour of Rome will include a visit to the new Contemporary Art Museum.

And food! No trip to Italy is complete without eating and drinking divinely. Try traditional menus and taste the contemporary twists that each Italian cook infuses in their meals. Enjoy a cooking class and the meal afterwards, with recipes to take home.

Our family owned inn is located in center of town, giving you every opportunity to explore Frascati, shop, or jump on the train for the short ride to downtown Rome, or just kick back at an wine cafe and knit! We will help you discover the options and choose the best activities for you!

As the transfer returns us to Rome Fiumicino airport, take home new stitch techniques, memories, recipes and the essence of Dolce Vita.
